The first match where two teams stood up and went toe to toe with each other. Over 30 shots. The Americans were just holding on at the end but hard to blame them.

What is wrong with English keepers? Very worrying. This group now becomes a thriller because the 2nd place team drops to the difficult side of the draw.

A bit conservative. Would have preferred no Heskey, Gerrard behind Rooney and Cole on the left. But he is Italian, Capello. I'm expecting a slow first half now which has become England's specialty of late.

The joke making its way through the english press: the game starts at 19:30, but the Americans won't show up until 19:41 when they'll claim victory.

25:00 If I'm honest it's a fairly even game to this point and the U.S. could easily be level. But England should have scored a second as well. Milner booked. U.S. looking dangerous aerially. Wait. That's supposed to be our game.

HT Did I mention James should be in goal? Total SHOCKER! Worse than Robinson's gaffe against Croatia. Worse than Seaman's flap against Ronaldinho. ArGGGH!
But England look the more likely to score again.
By far the most absorbing game of the tourney thus far. But I guess I'd say that.
