Argentina/Germany-- Who's a Jew to choose?
So, as the big Argentina/Germany game draws near, the question looms: What's the best result for the Jews? Who should we root for?
Obviously, Germany has a rather large strike against it: the Holocaust. For the same reason my cousin wasn't allowed to buy a Volkswagon, I probably wouldn't support Germany--even if they weren't wearing brown shirts. Anyone who ever watched Leni Riefenstahl's documentary on the 1936 Nazi Olympics is gonna have a hard time rooting for a German sports team.
So at first it seemed obvious: we must pray for an Argentinian win!
But then I got to thinking. Truth be told, there are probably more Nazis actually living in Argentina than in Germany. Courtesy of the Vatican, who created a nice Italian exit strategy, boatloads of Catholic-backed Nazis made it safe and sound to Latin America--mostly Argentina! (Clearly a Jew can't support the Italian team--cheating, histrionics and melodrama aside.)
So there's more actual Nazis in Argentina than in Germany. And let's face it: Germany has pretty much owned up to its genocidal past: their (near-Jewish) neurotic obsession with Holocaust memory has created some of the most interesting monuments and memorials in the world. (Another reason why we couldn't possibly support Austria, even if they ever qualified. Austria doesn't remember shit. Home to Hakoah Vienna--a successfully touring Jewish/Zionist football teams--in 1938 the Austrians shut them down and handed over their stadium to the Nazis.) Having recently been to Berlin, I was pretty impressed by the way Holocaust memory saturates the city. What other country has memorialized their own atrocities? (Canada should take note!)
So perhaps its time to take a cue from Daniel Libeskind's Jewish Museum Berlin, and begin recalling and rekindling the amazing, productive, and creative history of Jewish-German relations--as exemplified in Berlin's pre-war history.
So perhaps its possible to support Germany? While intellectually and politically conceivable, this is probably still impossible at an emotional level. The neuroses run too deep--which brings us, of course, to psychoanalysis.
If Argentina has more Nazis than Germany, Buenos Aires certainly has more Jews--perhaps the reason why the city has the most psychoanalysts per capita in the world. Buenos Aires: the most Freudian city since Vienna, the most Jewish city of Latin America. Of any city in the world, Buenos Aires might provide the analysis required for me to support Germany!
Unfortunately, I don't think psychoanalysis works.
And so:
YALLA YALLA ARGENTINA!!!!

To get you really riled up I supply a pathetic tale:

And then there's the very famous Juan Pablo Sorín

A mainstay of the Argentinian back four for many years, he proves once and for all that even judaism can't save you from bad hair.
"even Judaism can't save you

Still, Sorin is HAWT!

Damned Liberal.

For those of you not following the cross-post, this refers to the Gazette's insistence there be no white folk in their coverage of the Ghana game. That's me blurred out at the bottom of this shot:
They originally told Joseph and I to get out of the shot and then avoided all the other white folk in the room in the series (click to see)
