WORLD CUP 2010, The Final Blog

As boldly predicted by Foot Massage, it's July 12th and the World Cup is over.

I'm sure by now you all know who the Pool winner is, but there's plenty more gongs to go round:

The Most Pythonesque, Philosophical Poolster: Grandmaster jRo

He really should be in the line-up for the Greek team below:

A word or two about cheating and how to stop it.

In the aftermath of Luis Suárez hand-ball in the Ghana game some pretty ridiculous things have been said. The worst, in my opinion --expressed by his coach--, is that what he did wasn't cheating. That by doing something in the rule book and being duly punished amounts to playing within the rules. Suarez and Diego Forlan have come out and said that he made the best save of the tournament.

June 25 - Spain, Brazil, Chile and Portugal finally add some order to this crazy World Cup

For a while I was asking myself if England were the only idiotic team in this World Cup. But no, misery loves company, and France and Italy have truly outclassed England in every way. No team have owned the first round. But some of you poolsters surely have. Who can help but be impressed with our leading triumverate of jackson.bodtker, gilbert, and John Burgess? And then you poolsters who still have all 5 teams in contention: drigo and  Masterpick. Failure to mention perennial pool underachievers marcus and giuliana22 would be remiss as well.

Let's take a closer look at the neighborhood which has spawned this pool frenzy:

June 19th - Dialing it in

It's called a daily blog. So that means I blog each day. Today, like any other day, therefore demands attention. Saturday June 19th, consider yourself remarked upon.

June 18 three lions yawn

At least we weren't the germans,

but we're going home very soon.

June 17 Mexico waves France goodbye? Golden Argentina. Aspasia the big winner!

Arwen stays on top of the leaderboard, but give it up for John Burgess, brainsoverbrawn, maxhaze and Aspasia who are in hot pursuit.

Here's Aspasia watching Greece win:

June 16: Arwen's the pick of bunch, sour grapes from Masterprick, Chile finally win, Spain finally lose, SA virtually out

So who'd have thought that the mighty Spain would fall at the first hurdle to little Switzerland? Arwen, Beatriz and miguelb, that's who. Oh, and Masterpick, in this mindbogglingly psychic (his words) comment. Masterpick, now known as Aaasaaaamasterpick, tried to muscle his way to the top of the leaderboard, but I'm declaring Arwen the winner for the end of the 1st round of the group phase!!! Because it's my pool. And she's my daughter. Here's your first winner:

June 15th Watch out for North Korea and the Kiwis

Masterpick moves to the top of the table grace of alphabetism. Jack Russell, who always picks the eventual winner of the tournament, moves into a joint tie with vox sambou and brainsoverbrawn. Big shout out to blow hard! She puts her husband (soon-to-be-ex) to shame!

Now for some pics I took today:

vox sambou celebrates his birthday, but not a Drogba goal

June 14th Italy "start slow" and excellent debuts for the Orange and Samurai Blue

Ripe Green Ideas's pictureNo Major Movement on the Leader Board today, though el_keks has now moved up to third with her German/Dutch juggernaut. If those two do well she'll run away with the Pool. nanabananabritt and Masterpick still have shots at finishing Part 1/Round 1 with 14 pioints. Otherwise it's Ripe GreenIdeas to take first bragging rights.
